Oluwaya Eshe, a 28-year-old Lagos commercial bus
(Danfo) driver, is in very serious trouble after he was arrested and
charged to court for allegedly beating and biting two policewomen who
tried to stop him while driving against traffic.
The female officers, Omowumi Aliu and Adebisi Bamiu,
were said to be on duty around the Isheri Oshun area of the state when
they accosted Eshe for going against traffic along the Ikotun-Ijegun
road. They apprehended him and attempted to impound his bus and take it
to their station.
But the incensed Eshe would not hear of it as he started exchanging words with them, which later escalated to a fisticuff.
The
driver allegedly tore the officers' uniforms and bit Bamiu on her hand,
injuring her in the process. Other male officers had to rush down to
the scene and forcefully restrain him from further assaulting the women.
He was arraigned before Magistrate J. O. E. Adeyemi of
the Ejigbo Customary Court on charges bordering on assault, tearing of
police uniform and a human bite under the Criminal Code.
He pleaded not guilty and Magistrate Adeyemi granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
