A Florida principal of a high school
of last resort was found smoking marijuana in her car with her shirt unbuttoned
alongside a male student, police say.
North Palm Beach authorities say Krista
Morton, 45, was found in her car after police responded to a call about some
suspicious behavior Wednesday.
The caller believed someone was
having sex or fighting in the car. When police arrived, they say it reeked of
marijuana and found a container of the drug in the back seat.
When an officer initially knocked on
the window, the principal of Mavericks High charter school in Palm Springs told
them she and the 18-year-old student were 'just friends' and that she'd picked
him up on the side of the road because she was lonely and wanted to get to know
him, the Sun Sentinel reports.
However, according to the police
report, Morton's blouse was unbuttoned 'exposing her shoulders and part of her
chest.'
Police say Morton declined to say
whether she'd smoked marijuana but said marijuana had been smoked inside the
car.
Police found 20 grams of marijuana,
rolling papers and a lighter in the car.
The student had previously been
arrested for marijuana possession.
It came clear to police that Morton was the teen's
principal after he was questioned. She later admitted as much to the
officers.
According to WPTV, many of the
students at Mavericks are there because they've fallen behind or been forced to
leave other schools.
The Palm Beach County School
District says that, while it must initially approve charter schools, it has
nothing to do with how they're run thereafter.
