President
Muhammadu Buhari will address all Senators-elect and House of
Representatives-elect of the party at 9 am this morning at the International
Conference Centre Abuja, the APC said in a statement Tuesday morning.
The
statement, which was signed by Lai Mohammed, the APC's spokesman, was silent on
the agenda of the meeting.
“All
concerned must endeavour to attend this meeting,” the statement added.
This is
coming ahead of the inauguration of the 8th National Assembly coupled with the
divisions in the All Progressives Congress (APC),
the party that will form the
majority in both chambers, over who emerges Senate President and Speaker of the
House, Buhari who returned from the G7 meeting in Germany a few hours ago is meeting the members following feelers that Senator Bukola Saraki, one of the leading aspirants for the senate president position has sealed a deal with the minority Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the senate to have Senator Ike Ekweremadu become his deputy.
Bukola had a marathon late night meeting, which ended a few hours ago, with the members of the PDP National Working Committee and senators-elect of the party where the deal was sealed.
The All Progressives Congress had adopted Senator Ahmed Lawan and Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila for the Senate President and House Speaker positions, respectively in a straw poll, which the supporters of Saraki and Hon. Yakubu Dogara rejected.
