Taiwo Awoniyi, 19 others for battle of Pointe Noire

The U-23 national team coaching crew, headed by Samson Siasia, left the country on Thursday with 20 players to face Congo in Pointe Noire on Sunday for the second leg of their African U-23 Championship qualifying fixture.

The first leg, which was played two weeks ago at the AmeisiamakaAdokiye Stadium in Port Harcourt ended 2-1 in favour of Nigeria.

Siasia chose former Flying Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi and 19 others for the crucial match. The list has Daniel Emmanuel, Atanda Sodiq, Stanley Amuzie, Azubuike Okechukwu, Olusegun Oduduwa, Erhun Obanor, Godwin Saviour, Etebo Oghenekaro and Junior Ajayi, who scored Nigeria’s two goals in Port Harcourt.


Others are Kingsley Sokari, Usman Mohammed, Etor Daniel, Yusuf Mohammed, Chima Akas, Semiu Liadi, Shehu Abdullahi, Umar Aminu, Austin Oladapo and Sincere Seth.

The coach of the Super Falcons, Chris Danjuma, also left the country on Thursday with 18 players for their make-or-mar match against Equatorial Guinea in Bata on Sunday.

The selected players are Tochukwu Oluehi, Evelyn Nwabuoku, Blessing Edoho, Osarenoma Igbinovia, Joy Jegede, Osinachi Ohale, Martina Ohadugha, Desire Oparanozie, and Cecilia Nku.

Others are Sarah Nnodim, Ngozi Ebere, Amarachi Okoronkwo, Ngozi Okobi, Chioma Wogu, Mercy Amanze, Precious Dede, Gladys Akpa and ChinazaUchendu.
