2 Years After Disappearance, ASUU Urges Buhari, IG To Fish Out OAU Lecturer.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Obafemi Awolowo University, (OAU), Ile-Ife chapter has urged President Mohammadu Buhari and the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, to use their offices to fish out a lecturer of the institution, Prof. James Bolarinwa Olomo who has been missing for two years.
The OAU chapter of ASUU, at a congress of all stakeholders of the university unanimously made the appeal on Tuesday, 20th October, 2015.
Speaking at the occasion, the Chairman of the union, Dr. Caleb Aborisade, described the disappearance of the don as mystery and shocking and also appealed to the general public or anybody that may know his whereabouts or have any information that could assist in finding him to contact the university authority.
The union leader who alleged large conspiracy in the matter, expressed disappointment at the security agencies for allegedly turning them down when asked to work with Glo network provider to be able to get some facts about the whereabouts of the don.

The union described the development as inhuman, callous and misrepresentation of humanity.

Aborisade who stated that, Olomo went to Eket in Akwa-Ibom state as a radiation safety Adviser to an undesignated Oil and Gas Company on Thursday,October 17, 2013 before his disappearance, said the matter had been reported to security agencies(the police, state Security service (SSS) in Osun and Akwa-Ibom states.

He therefore said there has been no clue concerning his whereabouts Professor James Bolarinwa Olomo Of Nuclear And Medical Physics of OAU.

Speaking on the efforts made so far to fish him out, he pointed out that, major hospitals in Eket have been contacted and that, there is no case of any accident referring to professor Olomo while major Catholic churches in Eket and Uyo were also contacted and appeals were made that any sight of prof. Olomo should be reported.

The ASUU chairman added that “the hotel Farlem,Eket, where he lodged had been visited by the police, colleaques from OAU and family memnbers.his bag containing one native dress, towel, sponge and three tellers were found in his hotel room.”

He however querried the hotel manager’s position who maintained that, the professor submitted his room key, left early in the morning of Sunday, October 20, 2013 without checking out and did not return.

Dr. Aborisade who frowned at the claim of the hotel that, his bag was packed into a store and his room and re-allocated to another guest, wondered why the hotel staff did not report his disappearance to the police and argued that, they had similar experiences in the past when guest(s) would go out and return few days or weeks later and apologised that they travelled or were busy working on the field.
ASUU chairman however called on the concerned authority to act promptly on the matter so as to fish out the missing professor.
