8 places every art/culture enthusiast should visit in Lagos

With its teeming population and bustling city life, Lagos is unarguably one of the busiest cities in Africa.

Just like any old city, Lagos has it's own unique vibe - the energy level and drive of the average Lagosian can never be in contest.

But don't let the bright lights and constant movement fool you, Lagos is not without it's own great history and soul, and there are several places in Lagos where you can go for a dose of this...and more.
Check them out.
  1. Kalakuta Museum, Ikeja: Formerly the residence of late afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, the Kalakuta museum holds all things Fela and is a great place to check out especially if you were a fan of the late musuican.

  2. Femi's Shrine, Ikeja: Still on the subject of Fela, the shrine, which is owned by Fela's first son, Femi Kuti is an experience all by itself. Swing by here for some great live music and a feel of a side of Lagos you probably won't see anywhere else.

  3. National Museum, Onikan: If you want to catch up on some Nigerian history, this is the place to visit.

  4. Freedom Park, Lagos Island: In recent times, this has quickly become the go-to place for all things artsy and jazzy in Lagos. A former prison in the colonial era, Freedom Park now hosts regular live music performances and also has a museum and several eating joints.

  5. Nike Art Gallery, Elegushi, Lekki: For premium art work by Nigerian artists, head on to this place. There is also a cafe where visitors can relax in the compound.

  6. Terra Kulture: If you're a fan of the theatre, then a visit to Terra Kulture is an absolute must. But that's not all Terra Kulture is about, there's great food, a gallery and some live music on Fridays.

  7. First Storey Building, Badagry: Badagry as a whole is a highly historical town. In addition to being one of the slave ports, it also houses the first storey building in Nigeria amongst other things.

  8. The Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina: If there ever was a historical cathedral in Nigeria, it would be the Cathedral Church of Christ. One of the oldest churches in Lagos, and indeed Nigeria, pay this place a visit for some history and really amazing hyms.
