A man jumped to his death from the staircase leading to the 6th floor of the University College Hospital, Ibadan, on Wednesday.
The Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Deji Bobade, told PUNCH Metro that the man came from outside to commit suicide in the hospital around 9am.
“He was not our worker and he was not a
patient at the hospital. Because of the ongoing strike of members of the
Joint Health Sector Unions, we have less than 100 patients at the
hospital and the place from where he jumped is not a ward. The staircase
leads to the museum. He wore blue clothes and a pair of rubber
slippers. One of the slippers was found at the spot where he jumped to
his death,” he said
Bobade noted that a suicide note was found on him by the police who took his corpse to a morgue.
“Apart from the suicide note, the police
also found some money on him and his mobile telephone. He has tribal
marks and he fell lying on his face. He was certified death by doctors
around. There was no form of identification on him,” he added.
The Public Relations Officer of the Oyo
State Police Command, Adekunle Ajisebutu, confirmed the death to our
correspondent on the telephone.
According to him, suicide is not an offence, but attempted suicide is actionable.
