A former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has said the Social Democratic Party will defeat the candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Peoples Democratic Party and other political parties to win the September 22 governorship poll in the state.
Omisore, who recently defected to the SDP where he is hoping to contest the governorship election, said this in a telephone interview with our correspondent in Ososgbo on Sunday.
The former chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation said the SDP had become the leading political party in Osun State since he joined the party from the PDP.
He said, “The SDP is confident of winning this election. Individuals make up any political party and the SDP has personalities who can win elections in this state. You are all living in the state and you can also testify to what is already happening.
“When I was in the Alliance for Democracy in 1999, the party won all the seats. The PDP lost everything. And when I moved to the PDP, the party won and I have left them now and joined the SDP; the same thing will happen in the SDP.
“We will defeat the APC, PDP and other parties and win the election. The SDP has come to Osun to win; we are not just going to contest but to win. We are confident of winning.”
He said that he would bring an end to the suffering of the people of the state, adding that his policies would have a human face and he would ensure that welfare was given a priority.
He blamed the current administration’s inability to pay full salaries to all categories of workers on alleged profligacy, especially during the first term, saying the huge debt the state was plunged into was now having its toll on the state’s economy.
Meanwhile, a member of the House of Representatives, representing Iwo/Ayedire/Ola Oluwa Federal Constituency, Mr. Gafar Amere, has said the APC may lose Osun State to the opposition if the party refused to pick its governorship from Osun West Senatorial District.
The federal lawmaker, who is also a governorship aspirant on the platform of the ruling APC, said this in a statement made available to our correspondent in Osogbo on Sunday.
The statement read, “Osun West Senatorial District has waited enough to produce a governor, having ruled for only 22 months in 1992 while the Central Senatorial District had ruled for 11 ½ years and East Senatorial District ruled for eight years.
“The agitation has become a movement that will be difficult or impossible to contain if the party should make a mistake of presenting a candidate outside Osun West.
