Russia 2018: Technical deficieny cost Eagles Rd 16 ticket ―Galadima

Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel against Argentina at the just concluded Russia 2018 World Cup

Former president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima, has attributed technical deficiency and inexperience on the part of the players to the early ouster of all the African teams to the just-ended World Cup in Russia.

Galadima, who was also in Russia to cheer the Super Eagles while speaking in Kano said that technical error which led to the exit of Nigeria and Senegal in the group stage was avoidable?

“It is unfortunate that no African team qualified for the second round of the World Cup. From what I have observed, we need to go back and improve on our technical capability so that we can improve on our performances. The two teams despite having opportunities demonstrated inexperience and this accounted for their inability to make it to the next round,” Galadima, who is now the executive chairman, Kano State Sports Commission said.

According to him, Super Eagles and the Teranga Lions paraded materials that should have progressed beyond the group stage adding that technical deficiency largely contributed to the exit of both sides from the mundial.

“A draw against Argentina would have taken Nigeria to the next round but we lost concentration at the most critical period and conceded another with four minutes left in the match.

“Senegal having played so well and with four points in the kitty equally lost their last group match to Colombia in a game they needed a draw to advance as well,” he noted.

Galadima, urged the Super Eagles handler Gernot Rohr to fish out talented local players that could play for the country in the near future.

“It is unfortunate that we don’t maximise our potential. This country is blessed with abundant talented local players who can play at the top level if well groomed. So, our coaches should look inward, monitor the league to discover fresh legs, we have abundant materials locally, who can represent Nigeria meritiously,” Galadima said.
