A woman, who was indicted for biting a man's penis in Delta state, appeared before a court in the state and risks prison term if convicted.
The woman, whose name was given as Mrs. Rose Obi, from Ubulu Uku, Aniocha South local government area of Delta state, reportedly attacked Mr Fumnanya Ugbaja and injured his penis following an argument which quickly turned physical.
According to reports, he slapped her during the argument and she retaliated by biting his genitals. As a result, the woman was arrested by the police and charged to court.
But Mrs Obi's legal team are accusing the investigators of carrying out a shoddy investigation. They claim Mrs Obi's case was improperly investigated and as a result, she faces the threat of being charged with the offence of Wounding with Intent.
Mrs Obi's legal team claim the complainant wants Mrs Obi to be imprisoned at all cost. They claim to have met with the complainant to plead with him to have mercy on their client and strike out the case from court after the woman was charged with attempted murder. They also said they promised to take care of all his medical expenses but he refused and even rejected the idea of being compensated, insisting the woman must be imprisoned.
The legal team are asking that the Delta State Commissioner of police wades into the case to see that Mrs Obi is charged with Assault Occasioning Harm, instead of the current charge of Wounding with Intent, as this will enable her to be released on bail and go for her court trials from home. Under the current charge she faces, she will have to remain in prison until the High Court resumes from vacation in mid-October and tries her case.
According to reports, Mrs Obi will be remanded in Agbor Female Prison today.
