Nasarawa school offers scholarships to 20 indigent students

Gold Child International Group of Schools, has offered scholarships to 20 of its brilliant but indigent students in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

Its board chairman, Nelson Tatadi, made this disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Lafia.

Tatadi said that the management of the school offered the scholarships to encourage the beneficiaries to continue with their academic pursuits.

He said that the schools had also slashed tuition of its junior secondary school, as a way of giving back to the society.

He added that the management of the schools decided to operate like a non-governmental organisation, not minding how much it cost.

“We decided to offer scholarships to those students, who are brilliant and whose parents are actually financially handicapped.

“Although we have more than 20 of them, we are starting with this number, we will increase it in the future; that is how we can contribute to the advancement of learning,” he said.

Tatadi said that the school had been promoting the girl-child education since its establishment to curb prostitution, discrimination and child labour.

“We also target the girl-child education, which is also very paramount to us, especially those girls, who do not have the opportunity to go to school.

“We have been accommodating them by giving them free education on our scholarship programme,” he said.

Also speaking with NAN, the school proprietress, Mrs Banyonle Nelson, said she was fulfilled seeing the less privileged students back in school.
