Public workers in the Osun State have declared an indefinite strike action over non-payment of salaries, pension and allowances.

The State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Jacob Babatunde Adekomi, handed down the directive, while addressing newsmen in Osogbo, the capital, on Monday.

He said that the strike was declared at the expiration of the 14-day ultimatum issued to the state government by the body.

While noting that the strike was total, Adekomi said the workers would not return work until all their demands were met.

Adekomi said, among others, that “the state government is owing the workers about six months salaries and pension to retired people.”

The workers are also demanding that the letter of 2013 promotion exercise done by government, as well as none remittance of the contributory pension scheme, be put into effect.

He added: “We, therefore, directed that the indefinite strike action should be commenced by all the workers in the state as from Tuesday, May 26, 2015, due to the failure of the government to accede to our legitimate demands.”
