Injured people being taken to the hospital

Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) group says it was behind a suicide bombing on a Shia mosque in Saudi Arabia that killed at least 21 people.

The attack in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province is the first to be claimed by the branch of Saudi Arabian ISIL’s fighter, which was formally established last November.

The claim was posted on Twitter that is a reliable source on the group with an image of the bomber by an account.

ISIL has previously threatened to attack Shia Muslims in Saudi Arabia.

Witnesses reported a huge blast at the Imam Ali mosque in the village of al-Qadeeh, in Qatif governorate during Friday prayers.

The Saudi health minister confirmed to the state television that at least 21 people had been killed and more than 80 injured in the blast.

A doctor at the hospital said that some people were critically wounded.
