The upper chamber of the legislature
on Wednesday passed 46 bills into law in less than ten minutes. The passage was
done immediately after Senator Ita Enang, Chairman, Senate Committee on Rules
and Business presented the bills.
Following the passage of the bills was
an uproar in the chamber by some members of the senate, even after the voice
vote by the presiding officer and Senate President, David Mark, has announced,
” the Ayes have it”.
The uproar which lasted for about 10
minutes before the senate president could called the house back into order. Senator
President Mark, then told those who were not satisfied with the passage of the
bills to come tomorrow, being the next legislative day with their complaint, names and signatures for consideration, for there is no going back on the
passage he has ruled over.
The senate before the bills were
passed, had suspended Order 79 (1) of the Senate 7 Standing Orders and deemed
all the Bills as having passed first, second and third readings on the floor of
the Senate.
