An explosion occurred outside the Federal High
Court I, Port Harcourt, where Justice Lambo Akanbi reportedly delivered a
crucial ruling this morning, July 9.
The ruling saw the dissolution of 22 local governments
in councils in the state. Justice Akanbi who presided said that the decision of
the Amaechi-led administration to go ahead with the conduct of local government
election on May 23 was a flagrant abuse of court process and a total disregard
for the rule of law.
Akanbi explained that the council election defiled
the rule of law because it was conducted despite court order asking all parties
to maintain status quo. Meanwhile, there was an explosion outside the court
premises, and speculations have it that the explosion might have been a
reaction to the
ruling.
Though details of the incident are still sketchy as
at the time of filing this report, but Vanguard has reported that there was no
casualty recorded in the blast. A source also confirmed that there is heavy
presence of security operatives at station road where the High court is
located.
