Police discover decaying corpses of INEC staff, three other ladies in Anambra



The Anambra State Police Command has uncovered and evacuated four decomposing dead bodies in a room along Olisa Onyeka Crescent, Commissioner’s quarters, Ifite, Awka, the state capital.

The policemen led by the state Commissioner of Police, Hassan Karma carried out the operation following a tip off, Tuesday morning.

Sun reports that the police team, which was accompanied by an ambulance and some morticians, on arrival broke the door of the room and discovered four dead bodies already decaying.

The four ladies reportedly died on Saturday night in a room without any injury on their bodies.

One of the deceased, identified as Mrs. Chinwe Obi, said to be the owner of the room, was a staff of Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission INEC, Awka.

Mrs. Onyebumuo noted that the tenants said awful water was emitting from her (deceased’s) room, adding that she had not picked her phone since Sunday.

The landlady revealed that the deceased had lived in the building for 11 months.

Also speaking, the Caretaker of the building, Ignatius Machie, said he was contacted on phone by some tenants who told him they suspected some people died in that room.

It was confirmed by a tenant (name withheld) that the husband died on Friday and was taken to mortuary.

However, the police is yet to ascertain the identities of other three deceased persons.

The Commissioner of Police said some tenants reported to the police that they perceived awful odour emitting from the room suspecting that something funny might have occurred in the apartment.

CP Hassan confirmed that the husband of the deceased tenant, who resided in Cotonou, died in the same room when he visited last Friday.
