The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the death of three suspected kidnappers during a shoot-out with a police patrol team last Friday in Agbarho, near Warri.
The Command spokesperson, DSP Celestina Kalu said in a statement on Monday in Asaba that the suspects were killed after a police team intercepted a suspicious car with three occupants along Oghara road.
“On September 11, 2015, a patrol team attached to the Orerokpe Police Division intercepted one Toyota Corolla saloon car with Reg. No.BWR 532 HL.
“On sighting the patrol men, the occupants of the said Toyota car fled in suspicious manner and were subsequently pursued by the patrol men to Oghara road, Agbarho.
“The police engaged the hoodlums in a gunfire with the assistance of vigilante men, where three of the hoodlums sustained fatal injuries. They however died from their wounds.
“Some of the suspects escaped with bullet wounds, while the vehicle was recovered,” Kalu said.
The police image maker said that preliminary investigations revealed that the hoodlums had earlier kidnapped one Mrs. Blessing Emabari, aged 48 years at Okuokoko in Okpe LGA with the said vehicle.
She, however, added that the kidnapped victim miraculously escaped from the hoodlums before their encounter with the patrol men.
Kalu said that the police authorities had commenced investigation into the matter, while efforts were in progress to track down the fleeing hoodlums.
