Police nab kidnappers of 50-year-old woman in Kogi

Two suspected kidnappers, Wada Mustapha and Ibrahim Yakubu, who allegedly kidnapped a 50 year old woman, Mrs Mary Ocheje in Kogi State have met their waterloo at Imere in Igalamela/Odolu local government area of the state.

While Mustapha was arrested alive, Yakubu lost his life while trying to evade arrest. Regardless, the commissioner of police in the state, Mr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, paraded Mustapha and Yakubu’s corpse before journalists in Lokoja, the state capital, on Thursday.

Ojukwu explained that the suspected kidnappers had invaded Ocheje‘s compound on Wednesday and they were able to gain entry through the car porch ceiling in the house. He noted that the suspects collected five cell phones, abducted the Ocheje and drove her away in her Honda Accord car.

The CP stated that “unfortunately for the suspects”, the car developed problem on their way and they had to force the woman to walk inside the bush from 1am to 5am.
He stated that while they were trekking in the bush, they met three men on a motorcycle, adding that the suspects beat up the men and forcibly took away the motorcycle after threatening the men at gun point.
Ojukwu explained further that the kidnappers placed the woman in between the two of them on the motorcycle and continued on their journey, but when they got to a village called Imere, some of the residents identified the motorcycle as belonging to their kinsmen, which had been reportedly snatched from them.

According to him, the residents started shouting “thief, thief” and that the shouts alerted the vigilante men in the area who pursued them. He noted that Mustapha was later arrested alive while Yakubu allegedly died while trying to escape from arrest.

Ojukwu advised members of the public to be wary of people of questionable character. He said the command would not tolerate kidnapping, vandalism, robbery and other forms of violence and criminal activities in the state.

Ocheje, who expressed gratitude to God, the Kogi State Police Command and the vigilance group for their prompt action, said her rescue was an act of God.
