In defiance of efforts by the police
to curb its activities through a ban, the Movement for the Actualization of
Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, has vowed to proceed with its planned rally
in commemoration of the movement’s 16th year anniversary on Sunday.
It would be recalled that the police
had last week launched a raid on members of MASSOB as preparations picked up
for today’s anniversary celebration. The security operatives swooped on the
Freedom House headquarters of MASSOB located in Okigwe in Imo State and took
away about 200 of its members.
MASSOB had claimed that the police
from Zone 9 conducted the raid on its members, even as it raised the alarm that
it could not readily establish the whereabouts of its leader, Chief Ralph
Nwazuruike.
Addressing newsmen yesterday, the
Ikwuano Regional Administrator of MASSOB, Davidson Ohaegbu, told newsmen in
Umuahia that part of activities lined up to celebrate its anniversary were
church thanksgiving service and peaceful rally.
