Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has announced that the State has accessed the bailout funds from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
He said payment of the backlog of salaries to workers in the State would commence immediately.
Governor Ortom who announced this today in Abuja, disclosed that a committee had been set up to handle the disbursement of the funds to workers without delay.
The committee, which is headed by the Deputy Governor, Engr Benson Abounu also has Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Targema Takema and the State Head of Service, Adaikwu Inwata as members.
Other members of the committee are the State Commissioner for Finance, representatives of academic and non-academic staff unions of the state owned tertiary institutions as well as representatives of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and the Trade Union Congress TUC, Benue State chapters.
Governor Ortom urged the committee to ensure that the payment and all matters relating to the backlog of workers’ salaries were effectively addressed.
