How Buhari can succeed in anti-corruption war – Anglican Primate

Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Reverend Nicholas Okoh, has averred that for the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to succeed in its anti-corruption crusade, the salary and other allowances of civil servants must be improved upon.

The religious leader, who made this assertion while speaking at the enthronement of the new Anglican Bishop of Kaduna Diocese, Rt. Reverend Timothy Yahaya, identified poor remuneration of public servants at all levels, as one of the reasons for the high rate of corruption in Nigeria, particularly in the public service.

While lauding President Buhari’s commitment to fighting corruption, Archbishop Okoh, however, maintained that, “when public sector wages are too low, employees may find themselves under pressure to supplement their incomes in unofficial ways by embezzling public funds meant for developmental purposes.”

He went on to express confidence that the activities of Boko Haram insurgents would soon be over following the onslaught unleashed on them by the military.
