The Lagos State House of Assembly on Tuesday condemned the killing of
Mr Tajudeen Disu, the Managing Director of the Lekki Free Trade Zone,
by suspected hoodlums on Monday.
Disu was killed while on a peace mission over a land dispute in Lekki area of Lagos.
The lawmakers, while condemning the act, resolved that activities of land grabbers in the state must be stemmed.
Speaking on the killing, Mr Rotimi Olowo(APC-Somolu 1), described the incident as ‘’terrible and saddening.’’
Olowo said: “The murder of Disu by the hoodlums was bad; I pray the house to commiserate with the family.
“I want the house to call on the police to fish out the hoodlums and bring them to book because what they did is heinous.”
Mr Segun Olulade, in his contribution, said the issue of land grabbers was becoming a terrible menace in the state.
He urged the assembly to revisit the Land Grabber bill.
Mr Abiodun Tobun (APC-Epe 1), on his part, condemned the killing of Disu at a place where he was called to make peace and do his job.
“We have to put in the whole power of the state to get the killer,” he said.
Mr Lanre Ogunyemi (APC-Ojo 2) urged the house to look into the proliferation of illegal arms in the state.
“Land grabbers have been harassing people over land and these disgruntled elements should be brought to book.
“I want the house to leave no stone unturned to nip the issue of land grabbers in the bud,” he said.
The Speaker of the House, Mr Mudashiru Obasa, said the culprits should be brought to book to serve as deterrent to other land grabbers.
Obasa directed the Clerk of the House, Mr Ganiyu Abiru, to send a condolence letter to the family of the deceased to commiserate with them.
The speaker also directed the clerk to write a letter to Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode to do what was needful to stem the menace of land grabbers in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the assembly observed a minute silence for the late Disu.
