The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to the cancellation of the 55th Independence Anniversary parade by the Kwara State Government over security concerns.
A statement issued by the state Publicity Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Sulyman Buhuri, said the greatest security threat to the prevailing peace in Kwara State is the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
The APC noted that barely two days after the leadership of the PDP threatened, “spiral violent activities, there are security reports that certain individuals have been mobilised with the intention of unlawfully disrupting the independence day celebration.”
The party said it is not a mere coincidence and urged security agencies to start their investigation from within the PDP fold.
APC commended the Kwara State Government on the wise decision to cancel the event, saying, indeed, public safety is more paramount.
Kwara State Government had cancelled the parade, previously scheduled to hold at the Metropolitan Square, Ilorin today.
A statement last night by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Sola Isiaka Gold, said the cancellation follows security reports.
Alhaji Gold regretted any inconvenience that may be caused by the cancelled celebration, but stressed that the government considers public safety more paramount.
