JUST as the Bauchi state Deputy Governor, Nuhu Gidado resigned from office, the neighbouring Gombe witnessed a political disturbance following a move to impeach the Minority Leader of the State House of Assembly, Ahmed Usman Haruna, representing Gombe North State Constituency, a development which caused physical confrontation among members resulting in the whisking away of the House Mace, its symbol of authority.
Our reporter who arrived the scene when the commotion was gradually mellowing down gathered that a drama ensued when efforts to impeach the minority leader failed but one of those against the impeachment overpowered the Sargent-at-arm of the House which ensured an easy passage of the mace from the hallow Chambers of the House.
It was also gathered that efforts by the Police in the premises of the House could not stop the member from whisking away with the mace which is nowhere to be found as at the time of filing this report.
Even when gunshots were fired on the car carrying the mace and chased by the Police, it was still not found as the Police helplessly returned.
When contacted after few hours of discussing with the Speaker of the House, Honourable Abubakar Nasiru Nono, the State Police Commissioner, Shina Tairu Olukolu told reporters that he had not been briefed on the matter.
When contacted also, the Speaker Honourable Abubakar Nasiru Nono, declined comments but sought for a time before briefing the press.
It will be recalled that Ahmed Usman Haruna, the Minority leader (APC) along with some APC stalwarts, rejected the Ward Congresses, an action that has pitched him against some members. Out of the 24 member State Assembly, eight are APC with the remaining PDP.
