President Buhari has revealed that the staggering sum of over N500billion has been recovered by his administration thanks to the success of the whistle blower policy. He said this during his Democracy Day speech which aired at 7:00 a.m. Tuesday
The president's claim however contradicts those of his finance minister, Kemi Adeosun and anti corruption chief, Ibrahim Magu. As at the end of March, Kemi Adeosun gave N7.8 billion, $378 million and £27,800 as the total recovered through whistle-blowing tips. A total of N143billion.
In November 2017, Mr Magu said the EFCC recovered N739 billion in two years. Earlier this year, he said his agency recovered N511 billion in 2017 alone. A media strategist for the APC, Ayo Akanji however says there is no conflict in the figures recovered. He said: “The Ministry of Finance and the EFCC have been making separate recoveries, but there will be reconciliation soon.”
