Neymar’s debut PSG shirt sells for €240,000 at charity auction

The PSG shirt Neymar wore on his debut has been sold for €240,000 at a charity caution

The shirt Neymar wore on his first match for Paris Saint-Germain has been sold for almost €250,000 at a charity auction.

The Brazilian made his debut for PSG back in August last year following his world-record £198millon move from Barcelona and marked the occasion with a goal as they breezed past Guingamp 3-0.

Neymar’s PSG team-mate Kylian Mbappe also splashed out half-a-million euros on a statue of King Kong after outbidding him for it at the same event.

A total of €1.645m was raised for the PSG Foundation at Tuesday night’s gala dinner at the Parc des Princes, over €1m more than last year, according to L’Equipe.

The foundation, which was first set up in 2000, is the first of its kind to be created by a French club and, since the start, has been running initiatives to help children and young people.

The sum of money raised for it on Tuesday was significantly boosted by the bidding war between Neymar and Mbappe for a Richard Orlinski statue of King Kong, who was donning a yellow PSG strip.

The 20-year-old Frenchman eventually saw off competition from Neymar to claim the prize after lodging a huge bid of €550,000.

After winning the bidding war, Mbappe posed for pictures with his new showpiece.

Neymar’s shirt meanwhile was auctioned off for €240,000.

The same price was paid for the Ligue 1 Player of the Year award the Brazilian won last Sunday, which was signed by the man himself.
