Nigerians react as Magu dons Buhari’s re-election lapel pin

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, appeared on a Channels Television programme on Tuesday (today) wearing a lapel pin bearing an insignia of the re-election bid of President Muhammadu Buhari.

This has sent the social media space abuzz with comments, as Nigerians take to Twitter to express their views about it.

See some of the tweets below:

@officialEFCC is not the private property of @NGRPresident@MBuhari the head of the agency wearing a Buhari lapel compromises his independence. The loyalty of heads of agencies is to the constitution of Nigeria and the acts establishing them. Magu is bringing EFCC into disrepute pic.twitter.com/C09MWk45KR

Ibrahim Magu this morning on a Channels TV programme:

That emblem on his lapel is a Buhari re-election campaign material – and this is supposed to be a public servant of an independent anti-corruption body.

Lat time this happened was under Abacha – and we know how it ended. pic.twitter.com/BhvPTMQBjL

Ibrahim Magu, Acting Chairman of EFCC; a supposedly independent institution of government, wearing a chest badge of Buhari on Channels TV this morning, typifies the hypocrisy of the Buhari-led administration.

This is unacceptable and unfortunate. pic.twitter.com/VykupiANgk

Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of EFCC, wearing Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign badge

In just 3yrs Muhammadu Buhari has ridiculed governance more than any president before him

Ibrahim Magu, EFCC Chairman is one of the main campaigners of a 2nd term for Buhari. They said if you want to get any favor from him just say, you will deliver votes for Buhari in 2019

As you can see here, he wears a campaign lapel for Buhari to a TV interview. He’s compromised pic.twitter.com/Rdmsbs7zCj

First, Ibrahim Magu attended at an #IStandWithBuhari rally, now he’s appearing on @channelstv with a re-elect Buhari lapel pin.

And y’all tell me this agency is neutral?

Jokes pic.twitter.com/QKN2qd3RkI

Wearing a campaign lapel of Buhari’s second term is enough reason for Magu, @officialEFCCAg. Chairman, to honorably quit his position. This primitive and bold show of partisanship by a head of an anti-corruption agency cast huge doubts in EFCC’s ability to be neutral! pic.twitter.com/J81is3BtYs

One of the Agencies Buhari wants to use in rigging the 2019 elections has already started work in earnest. The @officialEFCC is leaving no stone unturned at ensuring Buhari wins in 2019. The NSA, Magu’s godfather has instructed Magu to do all possible for Buhari in 2019!

— Jackson Ude (@jacksonpbn) May 15, 2018

But frankly speaking, we should know the EFFC boss can never be neutral. He was appointed by the President & he will definitely be loyal to him.
Ibrahim Magu is doing just exactly what past anti grant agency bosses did for their principal. So, what’s the cry?

How one man, in less than 4 years, delegitimize almost all the “independent” federal institutions in Nigeria; from INEC, NAFDAC, Police, Army and now EFCC, this is really sad.

Ibrahim Magu wearing a Buhari Lapel pin, next thing we’ll see is INEC change their logo to broom stick

Ibrahim Magu the acting chairman of a supposed independent antigraft agency, @officialEFCCwas seen wearing a @MBuhari re-election campaign material on his lapel this morning on a @channelstv programme. This is a confirmation that the EFCC is President @MBuhari‘s attack Dog.

Should we say same thing as @inecnigeria

Maybe we shouldn’t even go to the polls then

— Axelrod 💰 (@bayuulivelife) May 15, 2018

Check the full meaning of INEC… Independent comes first!

The cry over the Emblem on Ibrahim Magu’s chest is what I found hypocritical. We all know the camp he belongs to, same way his predecessors.

I do believe that the outcry centres around the need for the person charged with fighting corruption to not be seen as biased. Saying he is loyal to the president then betrays the trust he would be impartial in carrying out his duties. The outcry is good for all concerned

— Akinwoleola Akintayo (@delvinmayan) May 15, 2018

The president appointed him, which means the president is his employer. So how done expect the employee to treat his employer???

— 🇳🇬Sammie❄ (@akadets02) May 15, 2018

The President is not the “Employer”.

The citizens of Nigeria (all political leanings inclusive) who pay his salary are his employers.

— Olú Awọ (@Risakeye) May 15, 2018

His loyalty is to Buhari, not to the nation or the institution he represents. It’s a shame that the head of an independent agency will be playing partisan politics, in supporting re-election bid of the president openly by wearing his lapel. So much for Nigeria my country!
