UNICAL ex bursar arraigned on charges of multi million naira fraud, wife declared wanted


The ex-bursar of the University of Calabar, Peter Agi has been arraigned before justice I.E Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Calabar on a seven count charge of fraud. He stands accused of using his official position as bursar to defraud the university of various sums by transferring huge sums of money to his wife, Isioma Sarah Agi, and other fictitious persons.

According to court proceedings, Mr Agi built a house valued at over N200million in Calabar between between January 2014 and November 2016. A sum which is in excess of his salary from from January 2011 to November 2016. When confronted, he said the edifice belonged to his 11-year old child. He is also accused of building a house in his village valued at N100million which is said to be above his verifiable sources of income.

He was granted bail in the sum of N20 million. The bail condition also includes providing a civil servant on level 14 and above as surety. The surety is expected to present a certified Certificate of Occupancy for landed property worth N20 million and with evidence of tax clearance. The judge also issued a warrant for the arrest of his wife, Isioma Sarah Agi. The case was adjourned to October 6,7 and 8.
