War against cultism: Kwarapoly engages 180 security operatives daily

RECTOR, Kwara State Polytechnic (KwaraPoly), Ilorin, Alhaji Moshood Elelu, said over 180 security operatives on daily duty have been engaged by the management of the institution to check cultism and other security challenges for academic stability.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Thursday during Ramadan iftar programme, the rector said that security operatives include those from the nation’s military service, police, Department of Security Service (DSS), Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the local vigilante group.

It is recalled that the state-owned institution had been troubled by members of the secret cult in the recent past with attendant loss of lives and property before the current measure was put in place.

Alhaji Elelu, who said that since the management had engaged such a high number of security agents, the institution had not suffered insecurity as peace and tranquillity had reigned on the campus.

He also said that such security-threatening activities as cultism and student unrest had not been heard of on the campus in recent time, unlike in the past.

The rector, who said that the students cooperated with the security agents to always maintain security on the campus because the arrangement was well organised, added that the school was not bothered about criticism against the arrangement because the benefits derived from it was greatly helpful.

The Rector said as a result of the stable academic calendar, the institution had been one of the most sought after by admission seekers.

He said the school also became a choice for admission seekers because of the accreditation status of the courses it runs, adding that 59 of the total 60 courses had been accredited.

Elelu, who is on his second term as the Rector disclosed that his administration, since inception, had been able to execute 47 projects cut across various departments of the school.

In his iftar lecture, an Islamic scholar, Ustaz Ismail Akanbi, explained the importance of Ramadan fasting it is one of what could help a Muslim to gain entrance into heaven.

He said the fasting makes a Muslim be more pious and that when one is pious he will likely have no difficulty in being in heaven as against hell.

The cleric enjoined Muslims to be kind to their fellow human beings and worship God with their wealth saying the wealth was given to them by God
