Motorists warned against calls while driving

The Lekki Concession Company Limited says it is set to partner the police and other law enforcement agencies to prosecute motorists using mobile phones while driving on the Lekki-Epe Expressway.

The Head of Route and Incidents Management, LCC, Mr Michael Aina, said on Thursday that the company took the decision in conjunction with law enforcement agencies to reduce the rate of accidents on the road.

He stated that any motorist found making use of a mobile phone while driving on the Lekki-Epe Expressway would be arrested and prosecuted.

Aina said, “We have warned motorists several times on the dangers of using mobile phones while driving. The use of the mobile phones distracts them and this has led to some avoidable accidents.

“If the company is to reduce the rate of accidents on our roads to the barest minimum, the laws of Lagos State concerning dangerous driving must be enforced.”

He also warned motorists to desist from giving money to any member of the Route and Incidents Team for assisting them on the expressway in  emergency situations, especially when their  vehicles broke down, adding that such services were complimentary.

“Towing of broken down vehicles on the expressway is free. This is part of the company’s free services to motorists plying the Lekki-Epe Expressway,” he said.

Aina also urged motorists to obey traffic rules and regulations by making use of designated bus stops and lay-bys in order to enhance smooth flow of traffic on the expressway.
