Ogun Customs get Armoured Personnel Carrier to tackle smugglers


The Ogun State Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service now has in its possession an Armoured Personnel Carrier to tackle smugglers in its areas of operation.

The Controller of the Area Command, Michael Agbara, unveiled the Toyota APC on Tuesday before journalists and warned that it would be suicidal for any smuggler to confront the NCS operatives.

He thus appealed to traditional rulers in the state and well-meaning individuals to discourage their people who aid and perceive smuggling as a means of livelihood.

Agbara said within one month, the command intercepted 51 smuggled vehicles and 5,103 bags of foreign rice among others.

Agbara while giving the breakdown of other seizures made within the period, added that 135 kegs of vegetable oil, 33 bags of sugar, 102 kegs of Premium Motor Spirit popularly known as petrol, and 300 pairs of footwear and one sack of ladies’ handbag.

He said all these seizures had a total payable value of N370.8m.

He said the most spectacular seizure of the month was a brand new Range Rover 2018/2019 model seized in Abeokuta axis of the command, with a duty payable value of N64.2m.
