We killed 23 B’Haram terrorists in Lake Chad region — Army


Troops of the Nigerian Army have killed no fewer than 23 Boko Haram terrorists during a clearance operation in the Lake Chad region of Borno State.

Our correspondent learnt that troops of 153 Task Force Battalion in conjunction with Cameroonian Defence Forces encountered the terrorists on Monday in the region and shot them dead.

According to the army, during the clearance operation in Bulakeisa, Tumbuma Babba, Abbaganaram and Dan Baure villages in the Lake Chad region, other terrorists were injured and fled the areas.

It was gathered that items recovered from the terrorists were: six AK-47 rifles, two FN rifles, eight AK-47 rifle magazines, 33 rounds of 7.62 mm NATO ammunition and two motorcycles.

The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Texas Chukwu, who confirmed the killings, said the residents should continue to volunteer useful intelligence to the army.

Chukwu said, “Troops of 153 Task Force Battalion in conjunction with elements of the Cameroonian Defence Forces while on a clearance operation encountered the Boko Haram terrorists. Twenty-three of the terrorists were neutralised and several others injured during the encounter.

“Troops cleared numerous villages in the Lake Chad region including Bulakeisa, Tumbuma Babba, Abbaganaram and Dan Baure. The residents are advised to report any suspicious activity or movement to the law enforcement agencies at all times.”

Meanwhile, the  Defence Headquarters, Abuja, said on Tuesday that the military was still strategising to ensure that all hostages in the Boko Haram captivity, including Leah Sharibu, the schoolgirl from Dapchi, Yobe State, and the remaining Chibok schoolgirls were rescued.
