‘Olubadan’s allowance to be released’

One of the high chiefs in Ibadan land who was elevated by Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, to the position of a king, Abiodun Kola-Daisi, says he has instructed the traditional council of Oluyoole Local Council Area of Ibadan to release the N900,000 allowance of the Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Adetunji, which was withheld by the council.

The Olubadan had refused to recognise the new kings, prompting the beneficiaries to stop the king’s allowance from the traditional councils they superintend over.

Kola-Daisi, who is also the Ekerin Olubadan of Ibadan land and the chairman of the traditional council in Oluyole council area, said in a letter on Tuesday  that he took the decision out of respect for the Olubadan, calling on others to do the same.

The letter said, “Please, recall that at one of our meetings during the month of September 17, 2017 at Mapo Hall, a resolution was passed to the effect that we should instruct our various local government areas to suspend the monthly allowances and emoluments that were being paid to His Imperial Majesty, the Olubadan of Ibadanland.

“In the Oluyole Local Government Traditional Council where I am the acting chairman on behalf of Olubadan of Ibadan land, the money has accumulated to as much as N900,000 which the council must now pay to the Olubadan.”

The Ekerin Olubadan called on other high chiefs who were now kings to toe his line of action.

He said the step was a way of achieving an amicable settlement of the rift between the Olubadan and his chiefs.
