Teen student becomes sick and dies in front of other students during band practice

A 17-year-old girl became sick and died in front of about 90 of her fellow students at a Long Island high school on Monday night, a report said.

The student, a junior at Sachem North High School, died at around 9:15 p.m. after suffering a "medical incident" during band practice, according to NBC New York. 

The tragedy occurred while the student was at band practice at nearby Sachem East High School — the same school where another tragedy took place during football practice last summer.

Kenneth Graham, the district superintendent, said in a statement: "It is with deep sorrow that the district has learned that an incoming senior at Sachem North High School tragically passed away last night.

"We are currently not aware of the cause of death. Our thoughts and prayers are with the individual’s family and friends during this difficult time."
