The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, and his team have prepared several documents with which he plans to launch his campaign, it was learnt.
One of them is an 18-page document.
It was also gathered that he (Atiku) would return to Nigeria this week from Dubai where he had been meeting his allies ahead of the presidential campaign, which will start on Sunday, November 18.
Sources close to Atiku said while he also rested in Dubai, he used the opportunity of the holiday, after winning the party’s presidential primary, to attend to his health.
Atiku, 72, was among the few presidential aspirants of the party that visited all the 36 states of the federation including Abuja, to ask for votes from the PDP delegates before the conduct of the party’s presidential primary held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on October 6 and 7, which he won.
A source close to him, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “Atiku Abubakar will return with a bang this week.”
The source added, “You know that the PDP presidential campaign was very rigorous. Apart from that, he was also about the only aspirant that went round the whole country, seeking for votes.”
Spokesman for the Atiku Campaign Organisation, Mr. Segun Sowumi, confirmed that Atiku would return this week.
“Yes, we are expecting him this week. Work has started. Atiku Abubakar who has put the ruling party on its toes will return this week,” he added.
Secondus also said that the party was waiting for the arrival of Atiku to name other members of the campaign council.
Though it was gathered that the national chairman of the party would head the campaign, other key members are expected to be discussed with Atiku before their names could be released.
Secondus said, “Anytime he (Atiku) is back, we will discuss with him before releasing the names. The party and the presidential candidate are working together on that.”
