The Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu has resigned his position today, Wednesday.
Aliyu’s decision is not unconnected with his aspiration to contest for the state’s governorship seat as he has recently emerged the guber candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Consequently, he will be contesting against his former boss, Governor Aminu Tambuwal, who is the flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the gubernatorial poll in 2019 elections.
Daily Post reports that a source close to Tambuwa said Aliyu’s resignation was a personal choice.
According to him, he resigned voluntarily and “we will not hesitate to accept his resignation.”
His resignation reportedly got to the state’s House of Assembly on Tuesday however, it was not read at the floor of the House during Tuesday’s sitting.
In confirming the receipt of the letter, a member of the House who craved anonymity said, “It is good that he resigned honourably because he would save himself from unforeseen humiliation and also save his relationship with the governor,” he said.
Both the spokesmen of Governor Tambuwal and that of the deputy Governor could not be reached for comment as at the time of filling this report.
