Oliseh confirms Enyeama has withdrawn from Super Eagles squad

Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, has revealed that captain of the team, Vincent Enyeama, asked to be withdrawn from the squad that will face Tanzania this weekend.

The former international told reporters at a media parley in Abuja on Wednesday, that “[Enyeama] asked to be withdrawn from this game, for which reason I don’t know, I think you have to ask him personally.

“The late withdrawal has put me in a very tight situation because I must confess that the task ahead of us is a very difficult one and I didn’t need this extra burden.

“We’re practically starting this team from the scratch, it’s not very pleasant but that’s life,” he said.

Warri Wolves goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme, has been called up to replace Enyeama and is very likely to make his debut in the AFCON 2017 qualifier.

Oliseh, who will be taking charge of the Eagles for the first time on Saturday, also made it clear that he was not about individual players but team work.

“My philosophy is based on the team being the star. Everybody doing well because the team is doing well,” he said.

He also stated that his original plan was to pick four home-based players for the trip to Dar es Salaam, but was impressed by what he saw and had to increase the number to six.

Oliseh added: “I have been most impressed with the home-based players so far.”
