Groom, bride, shot dead by DSS operative on wedding day in Nasarawa

It was double tragedy for two families who should have been celebrating the coming together of their children in holy matrimony as the groom and bride were shot to death by a trigger happy operative of the Department of Security Service (DSS), in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State on Saturday, November 7, reports Tribune.

The sad incident happened at  name Kugbaru community during the reception after the church wedding of the couple when the security officer went berserk and fired several shots at the new couple, killing them instantly while also injuring many of their guests.

An eyewitness said that the suspect appeared when the couple were having a dance and started shooting sporadically to scare the well wishers before firing several shots on the victims.

After the shooting, the culprit tried to escape but was nabbed by youths in the area and was almost lynched before a police team arrived the scene and rescued him.

“After achieving his inhuman acts, he was trying to escape before the angry youths within the area descended on him. 

He was almost killed before the arrival of the policemen who rescued him and took him to the station,” the witness said.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Ismaila Numan, has confirmed the incident, saying the suspect has since been arrested, while investigation was ongoing.
