Last week, the Federal Government of Nigeria approved nine new universities.
Four out of the nine universities are located in Ogun state of Nigeria.
With this development, Ogun state now has 15 universities, 12 private universities and three public ones.
The private universities are: Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo; Bells University of Technology, Ota; Covenant University, Ota; Crawford University Igbesa; Crescent University, Abeokuta; McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ajebo and the Southern University, Okun-Owa.
Although Redeemers University has moved to its permanent site in Ede, Osun state, the university still operates, to some extent, in Ogun state.
The four new universities in Ogun state, approved by the Federal Government are Chrisland University, Owode; Christopher University, Mowe; Hallmark University, Ijebu Itele, and Mountain Top University on the Lagos to Ibadan expressway.
Nigeria now has 59 private universities and 79 federal and state-owned universities.
The 3 public universities in Ogun state are: the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Olabisi Onabanjo University Ago-Iwoye, and the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu-Ode.
