‘4ICU’ RANKS UNILAG AS FIRST IN NIGERIA
The University of Lagos has emerged the first and best in Nigeria, in the latest web ranking of universities across the world, released by 4 International Colleges & Universities (4icu) organization.

The latest ranking released by the web-based body at http://www.4icu.org placed the University in the 1st position in Nigeria and 20th in Africa.


The 4icu ranking is a measure of an institution’s presence on the web. It is computed using a number of parameters that revolve round the quantum and quality of electronic resources on a website as well as access to such resources. 


PUBLIC PRESENTATION OF BOOKS BY PROF. ABUGU HOLDS, MARCH 5
The public presentation of two academic and practice texts written by the Head, Department of Commercial and Industrial Law, University of Lagos, Professor Joseph E.O Abugu, will hold on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at 1.00 p.m., in the Agip Recital Hall, Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos.

The titles of the two books are: Principles of Corporate Law in Nigeria; and Company Securities Law and Practice (2nd Edition).



PROF. AYO OGUNYE PROFESSORIAL CHAIR IN CHEMICAL ENGINEERING: CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR 2015 RESEARCH GRANT COMPETITION
The Board of Trustees of Professor Ayo Ogunye Professorial Chair in Chemical Engineering is giving a limited number of awards yearly to a maximum of N1,000,000.00. It is expected that the grant will, normally, be used for the purchase of equipment, services or chemicals.

GENERAL GUIDELINES
  1. The Fund is designed for use by the applicant for his or her personal research. 
  2. The research interest for this year is ANY AREA OF CHEMICAL ENGINEERING.
  3. The main body of work must be undertaken by the applicant themselves.
  4. Under the usual conditions of funding, no portion of the grant may be used for personal expenses such as the payment of an assistant or research student and will not, normally, be used for the purchase of books or subscriptions to journals or magazines. Only in exceptional circumstances, and specifically to aid the furtherance of the research programme, may a portion of the grant be used for travel; details must be explicitly identified in the application. 
Application and Assessment
1.         Applicants must be members of the University or others carrying out independent research in Nigeria.
2.         Applications are limited to one per department and MUST be submitted through the head of that department.
3.         Preference is given to those working in less well-endowed institutions. Applicants from early to mid-career researchers are encouraged.
4.         Persons employed as research students will not be considered for funding. 
5.         Applicants carrying out research under supervision are required to have their applications signed by their Supervisor. 
6.         All applicants will be required to provide the names of two referees (in addition to that of the Supervisor where Regulation 9 is applicable). Normally, at least one of the referees should work in a different institution. Referees should provide a reference that assesses the content of the research proposal submitted. 
7.         Applicants are required to provide information on:
i. The nature of the research in which he or she desires to engage and of the scientific results expected to follow there from.
ii. Where the research is to be carried out.
iii. The approximate full cost of the research and a breakdown of the manner in which it is proposed to spend any grant that may be awarded. This should include quantities and approximate costs for each item.
iv. What sources of financial assistance are normally available to the applicant for research, whether these are available in this instance and to what value. 
8.         Each grantee will be required to provide a report of approximately 1000 words on the progress of the research, together with a statement of expenditure. The report should begin with a summary of the main conclusions of the research. The report itself should include an outline of the work done, techniques used, results obtained, conclusions reached and a judgement of the success or otherwise of the project, together with prospects for future development.
9.         The applicant will be responsible for providing the report, for receiving and disbursing the money and for the general conduct of the research.
10.      All papers or publications describing investigations conducted with the aid of Prof. Ayo Ogunye's Research grant must contain acknowledgement of that fact. One reprint of each such publication should be submitted with the final report (see Regulation 9) or as soon as possible thereafter. 
11.      A grant will not, normally, be awarded to the same applicant for more than two consecutive years. 
12.      The Trustees reserve the right to modify the size of grants in accordance with the sums annually accruing to the Fund.
13.      The Trustees have the power to alter the above Regulations and to attach any grant other conditions it may deem desirable.
14.      The Trustees reserve the right not to give any grant if there is not a good application in any year.
15.      The Trustee’s decision is final and applications cannot be resubmitted or reconsidered in the same round.
