PDP Challenges Aregbesola to Publicly Declare Assets

The Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State has called on the governor of the state, Rauf Aregbesola, to publicly declare his asset to show if he has not corruptly enriched himself.

In a statement on Wednesday in Osogbo, the PDP also demanded that the governor should personally tell the citizens the exact indebtedness of the state.

According to the statement signed by Spokesperson, Diran Odeyemi, the PDP said public asset declaration will clarify if the current financial problems were occasioned by corruption or not.

“Such declaration will inform the opinion of the people of Osun state to access the quagmire situation we are and to know if it is as a result of massive embezzlement or pure mismanagement of public fund,” the party said.

“Only public asset declaration can help Governor Aregbesola to salvage part of his largely eroded popularity among Osun people.

“By so doing, the people will be able to check and determine, if he had actually mismanaged state funds or the monies have been embezzled.”

The PDP further said that the political goodwill of Obafemi Awolowo is being enjoyed today by the people who had little or nothing to do with him while he lived, as the late sage did not hide any of his properties from the public scrutiny.

“For instance, we noticed alot of discrepancies whenever his aides speak to defend him. Prince ‘Gboyega Famoodun, Osun APC chairman once told the world that Osun state government was already raking in funds through the lease of the helicopter bought for the state by Aregbeola by hiring it out.

“But Aregbesola has been saying it at every forum that the helicopter was bought for surveillance, but could not be put to optimum use because the federal government had refused to give the state its personal security code for the use through its control centre.

“We observe poor coordination from his party the APC, media aides and his various groups and this is not helping his cause of open administration Ogbeni Aregbesola claimed in several of his public statements,” the PDP said.
