THE Chairman Kokodiagbene Community
of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta
State, Comrade Sheriff Mulade has said that crude oil exploration and
exploitation has become a curse to the region.
Mulade made the assertion on
Thursday in Kokodiagbene during the commissioning of the N30million
Council built community hall.
According to him, “We thank you for
this great project, it is the first of government intervention in our
community.
“Crude oil has become more of a
curse to the Niger Delta region as it’s exploitation has led to poverty and
despoliation of the environment, the communities suffer while the wealth is
diverted to other regions.
“We ask for more attention in the
area of school library, market and school. We also thank High Chief Government
Ekpemupolo for his contribution to Gbaramatu development.”
On his part, Mr. George Ekpemupolo,
Chairman, Warri South West Area reinstated the call for councils autonomy to
enable them deliver quick and effective development to their constituents.
Ekpemupolo made the call while
commissioning the N30 million community hall built by him.
Ekpemupolo call on public officers
to adopt prudent management of funds, insisting that lack of proper financial
propriety is the bane of under development in the country.
He revealed that despite the drop in
allocations his council has been able to pay salaries and carry on projects
financing.
It could be recalled that during the
recent strike by council workers across Delta State, Warri South West didn’t
join as their salaries were promptly paid.
Contractor of the project, Mr.
Powede Uyadonghan expressed his joy at being saddled with the responsibility.
He urged contractors to execute
their job according to specification, people must learn to do things right.
