All Africa Games 2015: Falcons thrash hosts Congo DR

The Super Falcons of Nigeria, on Sunday beat hosts Congo Brazzaville 5-1, in their first game at the ongoing 2015 All Africa Games women’s football event.

Desire Oparanozie scored four times, before Love Chinasa scored the Falcons’ fifth, at the Makelekele Sports Stadium.

Speaking after the match, head coach of the team, Chris Danjuma insisted his girls will take the games as they come.

“We did not underrate the Congolese, we know African football, especially at the women level has improved,” he told completesportsnigeria.com.

“You saw that at a stage during the game, the Congolese took the battle to us; so we knew they would come out fighting”, Danjuma said.

“It’s one step at a time, we’ll continue to work hard to improve, taking the games one at a time.”

Danjuma also admitted that the Falcons drew experience from playing a host nation, after they faced Canada in the last FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada.

“We’re not new to playing against a host nation in big tournaments like this we did it at the last World Cup in Canada so this was no exception,” he added.

“Of course, it spurs you on especially when you win, to aspire for the bigger things.

“As for us here, the target is the gold medal, it is also part of our preparation for the Olympic Games.

“Like I said, we are taking it one step at a time, Tanzania is our next game and we are looking forward to it.”
