An unknown truck driver lost his
life on Wednesday morning trying to deliver consignments of woods at Jakande
Estate, in the Isolo area of Lagos, The Punch reports
According to residents of the area,
who spoke with The Punch, the driver was electrocuted to death after his truck
was hit by a high tension wire while trying to enter the estate.
The Chairman of the commercial
motorcyclist in the estate, who simply identified himself as Aremu, said the
driver was with two others who sat with him in the truck before the incidence,
adding that although the two other men escaped, they however sustained injuries
on their arms.
“He didn’t know that the front of the
truck had touched a high tension wire; the driver, who was seated with two
others in the trailer, noticed that the truck suddenly got stuck. So he brought
out his head through the window. While he was trying to open the door, he got
electrocuted. He struggled to get out of the truck but his strength failed him.
He finally hit his head on the pavement. His clothes were already burnt.
“Meanwhile, the other two, having
seen what happened to the truck driver, managed to escape through the other
door but sustained injuries on their arms”, he explained.
He added that the corpse of the
deceased has been deposited in a morgue.
