We don’t want Shelle, PDP chieftains insist

The last has not been heard of the internal crisis rocking the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party as some members dismissed the vote of confidence passed in the suspended state chairman, Tunji Shelle.

The aggrieved members, 35 in number had petitioned the National Working Committee the second time seeking the removal of Shelle.

In May, following the March 28 and April 11 elections in Lagos, some executive members of the party passed a vote of no confidence in Shelle over alleged misappropriation of funds and high-handedness in the management of the party’s affairs among other issues.

But the decision by the aggrieved members to suspend the embattled chairman was reversed by the NWC. The NWC had stated that only it had the prerogative to remove or discipline Shelle.

It, therefore, directed that the aggrieved members forward their complaints to the National Executive Committee through the NWC.

In a telephone interview, the acting Chairman Lagos PDP, Kamaldeen Olorunoje, told our correspondent that Shelle remained suspended.

“I am still the acting chairman of the Lagos chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party. Tunji Shelle remains suspended as we remain resolute on our position and the petition written against him,” Olorunoje said.

Reacting to the claim by Olorunoje that Shelle remains suspended, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Taofik Gani, stated that the embattled chairman enjoyed the confidence of the party in the state and at the national levels.
