She would have walked with the Catholic Central High School class of 1936 in Grand Rapids, Mich., but left school in her junior year to care for her mum who was down with cancer. She later did clerical work for the armed forces and served as a preschool teacher.
When she received the honorary diploma at Yorkshire and Stonebridge Manor senior community, tears rolled down her cheeks while she said: “I don’t know how to express my thanks… I’m sorry. I’m just plain chicken.”
Meanwhile, a 95-year-old woman is set to become the world’s oldest college graduate. Nola Ochs, who began taking college classes more than 30 years ago, has become a celebrity on the campus of Fort Hays State University in Kansas, where she will graduate soon with a degree in history.
Also, a Nigerian student Ufot Ekong broke a 50-year record in Japan after graduating with a first class degree and best overall student from Tokai University in Tokyo, Japan.
The talented student graduated from the university with a first class degree in robotics and electrical engineering.
