PDP Senators Move To Scuttle Amaechi’s Confirmation Again

Senators from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have continued to bemoan the confirmation of former governor Rotimi Amaechi  after attempt to halt the process fell flat.

The PDP senators had staged a walkout during the confirmation of process of the former governor. The senators stood against moves by the Senate to confirm him, but all efforts proved abortive.

However, the PDP Senators remain persistent in their battle to scuttle the chances of the former governor from becoming a minister as the Senate resume plenary yesterday, November 3.

A little drama ensued in the House as the opposition lawmakers kicked against the adoption of the votes and proceedings of October 29, the day Amaechi was confirmed by the upper chamber.

After the Opening prayers was taken to signal the commencement of plenary, the Senate went through the votes and proceedings of last week’s ministerial confirmation exercise.

Senate President Bukola Saraki summoned Senator Isiaka Adeleke (APC Osun West) to move a motion for the adoption of votes and proceedings of October 29, which he duly complied.

But when Saraki called Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, (PDP Delta North) to second the motion as moved, the PDP senator flatly declined, claiming he would not second the motion because he was not in the chamber when the decision on the confirmation of ministerial nominees was taken, Daily Post reports.

This immediately sparked an unfriendly atmosphere in the House, which Senate President Bukola Saraki had to deal with.

Following Nwaoboshi’s refusal, Saraki immediately called on Senator Ibrahim Abdullahi Gobir (APC Sokoto East) to second the motion which he duly complied.

Saraki proceeded immediately to put the question asking those who support that the Senate adopts the votes and proceedings of October 29 to say “aye.”

The APC Senators’ “aye” did just enough to over shadow the PDP Senators’ “nay” leaving the Senate to pass the Votes and Proceedings of Thursday October, 29, including the confirmation of Ministerial Nominees.

Meanwhile, Senator Bala NA’Allah, the deputy majority leader of the Senate has disclosed details regarding the controversial confirmation of Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
