A 25-year-old sales girl identified as Ogechi Njoku, and two
accomplish have been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command under
the Makinde Division, for stealing a week-old baby from Imo State and
selling him to a couple in Cele, Mile 2 area of the state for N1m.
Njoku who hails from Imo state was nabbed by 2am Wednesday at Oshodi Oke, Lagos when she was heading to Cele Mile 2 area where she was suppose to meet the couple that bought the baby.
It was learnt that the driver of the cab she boarded suspected she was not the mother of the baby when the baby started crying, instead of breat feeding him, she gave him food.
The mother of four confessed that she does not know about the details of the kidnap that it was her aunt that sent her to deliver the baby to the couple in Cele adding that this was her first time of being to Lagos.
Njoku said, “I have not been to Lagos before. I work as an apprentice in a shop in Onitsha, Anambra State. It was my aunt, Madam Ngozi, who asked me to bring the baby to the couple after they had made payment to her.
“My aunt collected the baby from a lady in Imo who wanted to dispose of him. I do not know how much she gave the mother of the baby. I started off this journey at about 11am on Tuesday. I took a private car and my aunt paid the fare.
“She had collected the N1m, but she had yet to give me any share as at the time I travelled. While in the car, I could not breastfeed the baby. I was giving him only baby food.
The State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni confirmed that he two accomplices by the names Patience Nwaogbo and Ngozi Izuoran have been arrested while investigation on how to apprehend other members of syndicates in Imo is on-going.
