Cult clash leaves?Police Inspector, others dead In Ogun State
A police inspector and a member of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) were among those who lost their lives during a cult violence that erupted in Ijebu-Igbo in Ogun State.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident on Monday. He said the gun battle, which began on Sunday evening at Oke-Sopen area of Ijebu-Igbo in Ijebu North Local Government of the state, lasted till the early hours of today.

According to reports, the crisis allegedly trailed a political rally organised in Ijebu-Igbo by the Senator representing Ogun East in the National Assembly, Buruji Kashamu. Several other persons were said to have sustained injuries in the deadly fight which sparked panic and unrest across the town.

However, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has since dissociated itself from the incident. The Police Public Relations Officer, on his part, said the command was working hard to ensure the perpetrators were fished out and brought to justice.

He revealed that the Police Area Commander, Ijebu-Ode had been directed to move to the town to maintain law and order, noting that that only three persons died in the clash. Contrary to the report that in incident claimed the lives of several persons, Oyeyemi maintained that only the police inspector, the OPC member and a suspected cultist lost their lives in the incident. He, however, advised residents not to panic as adequate security measures had been put in place to curtail the violence.
