AUN graduates will address Nigeria’s unemployment challenge’

The newly inaugurated President of the American University of Nigeria, Ms. Dawn Dekle, has said that graduates of the institution will assist in addressing Nigerians Unemployment challenge in the nearest future.

Dekle stated this during the 10th convocation ceremony for 158 undergraduates and postgraduate students of the institution held last Friday.

Dekle, who was inaugurated as the fourth President of the institution at the occasion, also expressed the opinion that the graduands would contribute their quotas to the country’s development and economic progress through job creation.

She anchored her belief on the curriculum of the institution, which emphasises entrepreneurship, skills building and development of a creative mindset.

She said, “This institution’s entrepreneurship building coupled with its internship programme, which the students were exposed to in the past four years, has made it possible for graduates of the institution to want to create jobs instead of seeking jobs.

“Over the past four years the graduating students have received training that will make them entrepreneurs and address the unemployment challenges facing the country.

“We are very proud of our graduates. We believe in building entrepreneurship skills through developing a creative mindset. So they are going to be creating jobs all over Nigeria. They are going to be looking at the problems facing Nigeria and they are going to create solutions.”

Dekle said she would like to be known as the ‘sustainability President’. She added that her major goal was to make the AUN sustainable for decades to come and also to relieve its founder of financial burden.
